Job Description:

As a Color Science Manager, you'll lead critical projects and project teams driving color improvements and innovation for Automotive Refinish paints & coatings. The work you do will have a direct impact on PPG's end to end digital strategy and organic growth objectives!

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Color Science Team by executing color innovation portfolio.
  • Develop algorithms to support color difference measurement, color tolerances, color matching process, variation creation process.
  • Benchmark competitive color workflows and work in partnerships with equipment vendors to develop and test new technology, and develop IP protected solutions.
  • Lead Intellectual Property activities by closely researching the patent activity of competitors in any area that are pertinent to color and refinish; ensure that action is taken to defend the infringement of PPG Patents.
  • Lead research and development of color mathematics and algorithms for color related refinish paint formulation and adjustment for both solid and effect pigmentations.
  • Develop state of the art laboratory practices for color matching samples and customer facing electronic color tools for finding and/or formulating refinish paint.
  • Conduct research projects with other business units and research centers.
  • Support regional sales, marketing & training teams in the introduction of new color technologies.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, or chemical engineering is required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in color theory, color technology, relevant light physics, and color identification equipment. Good understanding of automotive refinish technology preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant leadership experience covering a range of technical, project management, and color activities in the paint industry.
  • Strong project management and data analysis skills.
  • Moderate understanding of Calculus and Linear Algebra, Matrix Mathematics.
