for our students.GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Neighborhood Director
is a live-in professional staff member responsible for
comprehensively overseeing a vibrant residential neighborhood on
campus. Their primary responsibilities encompass managing several
residence halls and/or homes, supervising student staff, organizing
engaging programming, effectively handling behavioral issues and
conflicts, and providing immediate crisis response. Assisting the
Director of Residence Life with the ongoing housing operations,
this vital role is essential in nurturing a supportive, inclusive,
and dynamic student living environment where residents feel valued
and engaged. The Neighborhood Director reports directly to the
Director of Residence Life and embodies the spirit of community
living as a key live-in professional on campus.Requirements:MAJOR
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAdministrative: Ensure accurate
reporting and communication to support a well-functioning
residential community by supervising Resident Assistants and acting
as a bridge between residents and professional staff.
- Record and report information (e.g., inventories, work orders,
laundry equipment issues, incident reports,
surveys/assessments).
- Communicate student concerns and area-related information with
the necessary staff using the Dragon-360 platform.
- Supervise the Resident Assistant staff assigned to the
neighborhood of responsibility.
- Serve as a liaison between residents and professional
staff.
- Form related to financial transactions and events
promptly.Crisis Intervention: Respond to crises with preparedness
and compassion, offering guidance and support to staff and students
at all times. Utilize protocols, make necessary referrals, and
ensure timely reporting to uphold student safety and well-being.
- Participate in the on-call rotation with other professional
staff members and respond to emergencies during business hours,
after-hours, weekends, and university holidays.
- Utilize department protocol to respond to crises and provide
information to the Dean of Student Development and Transformation
and Provost/COO promptly.
- Guide all staff and students utilizing the protocols that the
Tiffin University Institutional Response Team (IRT) sets.
- Work in collaboration with and make referrals to campus
resources when needed.
- Submit an Early Alert (TUacts) report for students of
concern.Behavior and Conflict Management: Address student conduct
and conflicts with fairness and empathy, guiding students through
resolutions and sanctions. Facilitate mediations and discussions to
foster understanding and harmony within the residential community.
- Serve as the primary student conduct hearing officer for
incidents within the assigned neighborhood.
- Determine responsibility for alleged Student Code of Conduct
violations and assign sanctions.
- Meet with students to discuss interpersonal conflicts and
utilize behavioral/roommate agreements when appropriate.
- Facilitate roommate mediation to address concerns, establish
dialogue, and develop functional guidelines within students' living
spaces.
- Inform appropriate coaches and staff on initial conduct
infractions (This will serve as informative information for the
coaching staff, Athletics, and/or TU-Arts programs).Housing
Operations: Facilitate seamless transitions and uphold the
integrity of residential spaces, ensuring a welcoming and
well-maintained environment. Through regular oversight and
accountability, nurture a community where every detail matters.
- Assist the Director of Residence Life with the Residence Hall
and Home Enhancement Initiative by providing ongoing
recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Report and monitor maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry
vendor issues within residential or common areas.
- Assist in the housing check-in/check-out processes.
- Verify the condition of spaces upon checkout and process
charges when needed with students.
- Conduct and log facility walkthroughs on a bi-weekly basis and
upon request. o Issue and reconcile keys/cards, including tracking
and billing for lost ones.
- Provide front desk coverage as needed.
- Aid in the facilitation of summer housing and
camps.Programming: Create a vibrant community through intentional
programming that fosters belonging and connection. Guide and
support student-led initiatives, ensuring resources are
thoughtfully allocated to enrich the campus experience.
- Coordinate residential-based programming with student staff to
help build a sense of community and belonging for the assigned
neighborhood.
- Ensure and track that appropriate programming is being
conducted monthly.
- Allocate programming funds based on established
parameters.
- Ensure each neighborhood collaborates with the following
offices for programming: Student Engagement, Equity, Access and
Inclusion, Counseling Services, and Career Services.
- Collaborate with the Director of Residence Life to identify and
implement opportunities for creating special-interest housing
within each neighborhood.
- Conduct one large-scale social engagement event each semester
in collaboration with other neighborhoods.Leadership: Lead with
purpose and compassion, nurturing student and staff growth and
development. Embrace collaboration and representation, forging
meaningful relationships and fostering a supportive campus culture.
- Attend departmental and campus-wide meetings as required.
- Attend and participate in professional staff training.
- Co-lead Resident Assistant recruitment and selection
processes.
- Co-lead Resident Assistant training and in-service
sessions.
- Collaborate with other University offices on programming and
student support initiatives.
- Represent the University at campus events (e.g., Welcome
Weekend, Visit Days, Orientation, Hype Night, Homecoming, and any
other event as needed).
- Maintain formal and informal contact with students living on
campus regularly.
- Forge relationships with residents and University
personnel.
- Serve on University committees as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Participate in large-scale campus activities and events.KEY
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)Incident Management and Response:
- Description: Monitor the effectiveness and timeliness of
incident management and resolution within residential
facilities.
- Metric: Resolve 95% of incidents reported through Incident
Reports within 48 hours.Administrative Efficiency:
- Description: Ensure timely and accurate completion of
administrative tasks related to residence life, including financial
transactions, programming activities, and reporting.
- Metric: Submit 100% of required administrative forms and
reports by deadlines and maintain an 85% accuracy rate in financial
transactions and budget management.Student Interaction and
Availability:
- Description: Ensure regular and meaningful contact with
students in various housing facilities to foster a supportive
community.
- Metric: Schedule and conduct at least three weekly
walk-throughs or informal meetings in residential facilities, with
a target of 80% positive feedback from student interactions.Each
Neighborhood Director is responsible for managing one of the
following projects or programs:
- Dragon Pantry: RLC- 1
- Description: Manage and distribute student nonperishable food,
personal hygiene items, feminine hygiene products, and laundry
supplies as requested.
- Metric: Respond to student requests within 12 hours and
maintain inventory monthly while doing the stock rotation. Conduct
three food drive campaigns per semester.
- Tiffin Hall and House Association (THHA): RLC- 2
- Description: THHA's purpose is to advocate for the residential
experience, serving as the forum to share and implement new ideas
within the residential community through programming, governance,
and innovation.
- Metric: Create or grow two THHA signature programs per
semester.
- Summer Projects Management: RLC-3
- Description: Ensure effective management and execution of
summer housing and camp-related activities, including
move-in/move-out protocols, student housing assignments, and
collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Metric:
- Successfully coordinated 100% of move-in and move-out processes
for summer camps, ensuring no more than 2% errors or delays.
- Complete TU student summer housing assignments with 95%
accuracy by the established deadline.
- Ensure seamless transition of summer-to-fall housing
assignments, achieving 90% student satisfaction.
- Collaborate with the Director of Facilities and Security to
address all summer camp needs with 100% compliance with safety
protocols.
- Coordinate with coaches to finalize all logistics for camps and
summer housing at least two weeks before the start of each camp,
with 90% satisfaction from coaches.QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES
FOR THE JOBEducation:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education,
Counseling, or a related field.Experience:
- Demonstrated knowledge as a resident assistant or student
leader.
- Interest and appreciation in student development.
- Experience in residence life/housing as a student or
